For those heading out with a sluice in hand looking to do some sluicing/panning in a nearby stream I highly recommend 5 gallon pails.. 😀 That's providing you don't have to lug them very far. I know it sounds like a simple thing, but hey they make are rugged, make a great seat when overturned and you are panning concentrates.

The plastic classifier/sieve (from BAP for example) also are made to fit nicely over these buckets allowing you to set shovel material onto the sieve preventing sticks and larger rocks from getting into your material. Using a second bucket you can scoop up some water and wash the clay/mud from the material on the sieve and have in fall down into the bucket.

Large buckets can also be used to help funnel water into the sluice. Fill them up half way with water and set them in a manner to coral more water towards the sluice opening.
